Toys: Gravity and friction.

We experimented making ramps.  We discovered that gravity pulls the car down the ramp, so gravity makes the car move. We did some science experiments and worked hard to keep our tests fair.

We wanted to know if the height of the ramp affects the distance the car travels. Here’s what we found out.

The car on a ramp 1 brick high travelled a distance of 2 hands, the car on a ramp 2 bricks high travelled a distance of 3 hands and the car on the ramp 3 bricks high travelled a distance of 4 hands.

We decided that the steeper the ramp, the further the car will travel.DSCF3321DSCF3319

We tried building ramps on different surfaces too. Here’s what we found out:

The car travelling on wood travelled a distance of 3 cars, the car travelling on paper travelled a distance of 3 cars and the car travelling on carpet travelled a distance of 2 cars.

The car travelling on carpet was slowed down by friction.
